Telegraph Poles

Burnt Tree

These photos were taken last weekend and the telegraph poles stretch out across the field which skirts the top of Gollinrod Gorge. From the burnt tree you can see Ramsbottom and the hills beyond and also take the steep path down into the gorge.

Irwell

Irwell

It was probably the wrong time of day to be taking shots in down here as very little sunlight was reaching the Irwell. At one point alongside the river there are some huge, overgrown walls which look like they were once the sides of channels used to divert and hold water. If so, they probably fed the nearby mill.

Hello.

Firstly, I commend you on the quality of images that you have taken.

I hope that you dont mind me writing here with my query.

Me and my girfriend am due to leave university in july, and are keen got on the lookout for a good location to buy a property.
We both like walks in the woods and the countryside, and like the idea of living within a village setting. But are also aware that it would be inconvenient not to live within good commuting distance of places we are likely to work once qualified; Bolton, Bury, Manchester, etc... (I am trainging as a social worker, and my girlfriend; a nurse).
I was very happy to come across your page, as while I was looking at houses prices/locations on the internet, I came across a property for sale on nearby 'India Street.
From the pictures above and the location, Summerseat seemes a perfect.

Seeminlgy a man with great interest in North West/Lancashire villages; I wonder if you could comment on the location specified (in regard to my expressed interests and possible need to commute) and/or inform me of any other locations that may suit me better.

Thankyou.

Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for visiting the blog and no problem whatsoever with your query.

I might be a bit biased but Summerseat is a fantastic place to live with plenty of countryside on the doorstep and easy access to the motorway network and nearby towns. I can also vouch for India Street and all the rows of terraces known locally as the brick houses as we actually live there! It's a very safe and friendly community which is ideal for young couples and families.

Good luck with finishing your degrees and do get in touch if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Andrew

Thankyou for responding.

Your description of Summerseat is exactly how I imagined form descriptions on house listings, and from looking at your images.

obviousely, the properties that are for sale at the moment are quite unlikely to still be on the market when I am ready to purchess. But looking at tham hypothetically, I have got a better idea of prices an availability in different locations.
Coming from Smithills in Bolton, I have grown up with alot of woodland to explore, and was just a short walk; up a steep hill, from the open countryside. Knowing that area I have also been looking at properties nearby; places such as Turton, Abbey Village, and Belmont (but these places; from what I have heard, may not have the friendly village community in which you describe Summerseat).

Thanks again for your help. I'll be sure to peck-your-head again if I have any further questions.

Take care.

Aaron.

Hi Peter,

Lovely to hear from you and many thanks for the link on your Ward Family site. I've often visited it to find out more about the history of the village and it's certainly a great resource.

Warm regards,

Andrew
