Heavy snows overnight left the steep roads in and out of the village virtually impassable for most of the morning forcing drivers who'd attempted to cut through to the M66 to leave their cars on the roadside. The snowfall did have a bright side though as local schools closed and the children had a day off to make the most of the seasonal weather.
